Facelift
A Facelift (Rhytidectomy) by Dr. Sattler can restore facial shape and youthfulness for Seattle area patients.
WHAT IS A FACELIFT?
A good facelift with reshape the face into a more youthful confirmation and restore tone and shape to the neck. It is the ability of 'reshaping' that sets the facelift apart from other procedures that merely add volume or remove excess skin. Facial laxity is the result of the supporting layers of the cheek and neck becoming loose and repositioned over time. A face and necklift restores the tone and tension to these supportive layers (the SMAS and platysmal tissue layers). A facelift does not 'tighten' the facial skin, per se. A facelift reshapes and tensions the SMAS and platysmal layers of the face, thus reshaping the face into a more youthful confirmation. The overlying skin is merely 'along for the ride'. Some skin excess is removed during a facelift, but this is not the primary goal of the procedure.
The facelift procedure favored by Dr. Sattler restores a number of facial aesthetic concerns.
- Jowls and laxity of lower facial skin
- Laxity and sagging of the neck and jawline
- Deepening folds around the mouth
- Loss of facial volume
Dr. Sattler frequently uses other cosmetic facial procedures, such as eyelid lift, brow lift and fat transfer to the face to enhance his facelift results for Seattle area patients.
What is unique about the Facelift Procedure by Dr. Scott Sattler?
The facelift procedure by Dr. Sattler emphasizes the restoration of facial volume in regions of the cheeks and around the eyes. In addition, his face lift procedure emphasizes a 'clean' and smooth neckline and jawline. In order to create these changes, Dr. Sattler modifies the position of the face's underlying connective tissue (the SMAS layer) and then carefully re-drapes the facial and neck skin around this restructured foundation. Dr. Sattler frequently uses fat transfer techniques and neck liposuction to further enhance a facelift result for his Seattle area patients. Dr. Sattler emphasizes the restoration of a youthful facial shape, which is a hallmark of facial beauty, and can only be created by an expertly performed facelift surgery.
Some patients are good candidates for a short scar facelift, mini facelift and other minimally invasive facelift techniques. Other patients require a full face and neck lift to achieve the best possible cosmetic result.
How is a Facelift by Dr. Sattler done ?
Dr. Sattler does all facial cosmetic surgery in the private, on-site, accredited surgery center that is part of our Seattle area clinic. For most patients, a 'twilight sleep' anesthetic is used for maximum patient safety during a facelift procedure.
The operation takes a few hours, depending on the additional procedures being done. Dr. Sattler frequently uses neck liposuction, fat grafting, brow lift surgery, eyelid lift surgery and laser facial resurfacing to further enhance his surgical results.
What is Facelift Recovery like ?
Immediately after surgery, the face is fitted with bandages in order to reduce swelling. Patients sometimes report some minor pain associated with surgery. Any discomfort can be treated effectively with oral medication. Patients follow up with Dr. Sattler in his Seattle area clinic the day after surgery for drain removal and then six days after surgery for suture removal. While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given after the procedure. Most patients are able to attend social functions without excessive bruising or swelling at two weeks after surgery.
Note the before and after images of a facelift patient performed by Dr. Scott Sattler. There is substantial improvement in the shape of the lower face. It is more 'almond' shaped and less square shaped. There is improvement in the volume of midface cheek which is the region below and around the eyes. This is a result of the facelift itself and from the fat grafting done for the patient during the facelift procedure. The result is a refreshed and more youthful, but not overly 'tight' post operative appearance.
